Wundervoller Kurzfilm von Tom Hankins, Rene Hoekstra und Gijs van Kooten, die auch für Mac’n'Cheese verantwortlich sind, über ein kleines Mädchen dessen Vater durch einen schrecklichen Unfall schwer verwundet wird als plötzlich eine wundersame Kreatur auftaucht, die sich ihrem Vater annimmt.

Nicholas Robatto, der übrigens Requisitenbauer für die Doctor Who, Torchwood und einige andere Serien ist, verkauft gerade auf etsy und über seinen Shop eine sensationell gut aussehende Sammlung von Rayguns verschiedenster Archetypen angefangen von Steampunk bis Space Age. Hier mal die Beschreibung für obigen „Rolls-Royce of the Raygun World“.

This fellow is the the Rolls-Royce of the raygun world. The mother of all dueling ray-pistols, the Clockwork Vaporizer can blast an opponent from approx 260 miles without leaving a mark on one’s attire. This leaves one free to take tea under the jacaranda bushes with the colonel’s lady immediately afterwards without one’s sartorial elegance being compromised. The Clockwork Vaporizer is also quite simply a stunning piece. Brass filigree decoration on the sides, carved oak handle with distressed leather grip, green lighting detail on the barrel, the list goes on.

Steampunk Doku-Trailer “Vintage Tomorrows”

In letzter Zeit häufen sich ja hier Steampunk Kurzdokus und Trailer und jede Menge anderer Kram, was ich wirklich sehr begrüße, und mit “Vintage Tomorrows” steht auch schon die nächste Doku in der Tür, die wirklich sehr sehr gut aussieht, unter Anderem Cory Doctorow von Boingboing zu Wort kommen lässt und im Rahmen des Intel Tomorrow Project entsteht, welches sich dem (Retro)Futurismus verschrieben hat:

Steampunk art evokes an alternate reality where steam is the primary source of power. Bob Basset gehört zu den weltweit gefragtesten Steampunk Künstlern, dessen Lederarbeiten und Masken mittlerweile zahlreiche Abnehmer in aller Welt finden, wie z.B. Cory Doctorow von BoingBoing, durch dessen aktuellen Beitrag ich auf Bob aufmerksam geworden bin. Cyberneticzoo – A History of Cybernetic Animals and early Robots

Bin eben dank Clockworker Captain Serenus auf den Blog Cyberneticzoo von Reuben Hoggett gestoßen, der sich ausschließlich mit Animatronics, früher Robotertechnik und anderen Maschinen beschäftigt.

Reuben Hoggett has had a life-long interest in robots. His earliest images are that of Grey Walter’s tortoise as illustrated in Nigel Calder’s book ‘Robots’, an image of Bruce Lacey’s robot best ‘man’  Rosabosom in a 60′s newspaper article, and Dr Who and the Daleks, of course. These books and articles he still has after 40 odd years. Over that time his personal collection of all things robotic has been growing.  Aspects of his robotics interest were re-kindled some years ago after reading an article on the recent discovery and restoration of Grey Walter’s own tortoise by those at Bristol Robotics Lab. After starting a friendship with robot builder and historian David Buckley, some of his efforts have been published on David’s site.  With the amount of material he has on the early history of robots, there is at least 2 years of work effort if each robot gets its own blog entry each night.

Beim ersten überfliegen bin ich auch schon auf obiges Motiv eines frühen Power-Skelett mit dem kernigen Namen “GE Handyman” gestoßen, welches anfang der 50er Jahre der Fachwelt vergestellt wurde. Toller Blog, der umgehend in den Feedreader kommt. via clockworker

Tolle Arbeiten des Künstlers Wilhelm Staehle der seine viktorianischen Cut-Outs als »Modern spin on vintage tales with twisted turns.« bezeichnet. Das hier ist nur eine kleine Auswahl aus seiner Sammlung “Silhouette Masterpiece Theater“, die so recht in keine Kategorie passen will, aber von Steampunk, über Shitstorm bis hin zu Cthulhu eigentlich jedes wichtige Thema abdeckt. Kann man übrigens auch hier kaufen.
