David Markus sammelt gerade via Kickstarter Geld für sein Ferrite Projekt, bei dem er ein Gefäß produzieren möchte in dem sich ein Ferrofluid befindet, eine ölige Flüssigkeit mit magnetisierten Metallspänen, welches man dann mit seinen Seltenen Erdmagneten striezen und Magnetfelder sichtbar machen kann. WANT! (leider nur in den USA zu bekommen)

Ferrofluid is an extraordinary material with unique ferromagnetic properties. Although dozens of applications for it have been found – from hard drives to loudspeakers – its most impressive is arguably as an interactive display. Ferrofluid displays capture the best qualities of ferrofluid, both as a liquid and as a ferromagnetic substance. By applying magnetic fields of different strengths, different shapes and formations begin to appear in this otherworldly black liquid. By suspending it in a clear liquid, even more interactive qualities are exposed.

Super DIY-Hack von Instructables Autor Dimovi der aus einem alten LCD-Monitor eine der zwei vorhandenen Polarisationfolien entfernte und auf eine alte Brille klebte, was dazu führt dass nur er mit dieser Brille den Inhalt seines modifizierten Monitors sehen kann. Wofür man das nun nutzt könnt ihr euch ja alle denken. Wie und warum das so funktioniert hat übrigens der Engineer Guy vor einem halben Jahr sehr sehr schön erklärt.

Tyler Christensen (aka Raiden) hat sich für Halloween eine Dual Resonant Solid State Tesla Coil, kurz eine Tesla Spule, auf einen Hut gesetzt (die das Mortal Kombat Theme spielt!) und ist damit durch die Straßen gelaufen. Seriously WTF!? Das Video dazu ist leider von ziemlich mieser Qualität, wer etwas mehr sehen will schaut mal in seinen Post rein: Hat Coil.

Dan Rosenfeld arbeitet schon seit einiger Zeit an seinem Big Head Project, bei dem er sich mit der Wahrnehmung von Menschen von Telepräsenzen beschäftigt, und hat dieses nun zu Halloween für einen kleinen Ausflug ausgeführt.

The Big Head project is (…) a large, head-mount box with a 24″ LCD on the front showing a live video view of the wearer’s face. Of course, the face is flat, slightly miscolored, unmistakeably a video and much larger than usual.

The wearer’s face is captured with a video camera looking through a half-silvered mirror. There’s a second camera, which captures a view from the front of the box, near the eyes of the on-screen face. The outside view is shown on an internal LCD, which reflects on the half-silvered mirror; this way the wearer can look directly at the LCD and the camera at the same time.

In Japan ist man nun soweit und hat die erste flugfähige Lichtschwert-Trainingsdrohne entwickelt. Derzeit noch ohne Lasergeschütz, aber das kann man aufgrund der niedrigen Kosten von 1400$ für diese kleine Kugel ja kaum erwarten.

Die Jeff Mills Variante mit drei Decks ging leider nie in Serie aufgrund des Konkurses der Calvin Company im Jahre 1982. Aber auch so würde ich mir dieses mit Kunstkrokoleder bezogene Schmuckstück liebend gerne in die Wohnstube stellen. via testspiel

Arturo Castro hat sich ein Programm geschrieben mit dem er in Echtzeit jedes beliebige Gesicht der Geschichte über seines projezieren kann: FaceTracker.

Harrison Krix hat nach über vier Monaten harter Arbeit endlich seinen zweiten Daft Punk Helm, den von Thomas Bangalter fertiggestellt, der mit über 350 LEDs bestückt ist, über 4h Laufzeit hat und dessen Matrix on-the-fly über eine iOS App gesteuert werden kann! SWEET!

Den kompletten Schaffensprozess hat er zudem in einem Video festgehalten und auf seiner Website eine Schritt-für-Schritt Dokumentation veröffentlicht. Alle Bilder gibt es natürlich in seinem Flickr-Stream.

Nicholas Robatto, der übrigens Requisitenbauer für die Doctor Who, Torchwood und einige andere Serien ist, verkauft gerade auf etsy und über seinen Shop eine sensationell gut aussehende Sammlung von Rayguns verschiedenster Archetypen angefangen von Steampunk bis Space Age. Hier mal die Beschreibung für obigen „Rolls-Royce of the Raygun World“.

In letzter Zeit häufen sich ja hier Steampunk Kurzdokus und Trailer und jede Menge anderer Kram, was ich wirklich sehr begrüße, und mit “Vintage Tomorrows” steht auch schon die nächste Doku in der Tür, die wirklich sehr sehr gut aussieht, unter Anderem Cory Doctorow von Boingboing zu Wort kommen lässt und im Rahmen des Intel Tomorrow Project entsteht, welches sich dem (Retro)Futurismus verschrieben hat:
